Follow Friday & Book Blogger Hop (17)

, by Kt Clapsadl

Book Blogger HopOn fridays I participate in both Follow Friday and the Book Blogger Hop.

Follow Fridays is hosted by Parajunkee's View, and is just Fridays.

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy-for-Books, and runs Friday to Monday. There are new rules for the hop, so make sure to check out Crazy for Books for the details.

This week's question from Crazy for Books:
If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?
Yes!! Even if I get a book for review and it is the 2nd or 3rd in a series, I have to get the previous books and read them first. I just feel the experience is ruined if you are thrown into the middle of things without getting a chance to get to know the characters and the world. I think that is one of the reasons I'm not big on single title books. I prefer several books to build relationships with the characters.

This week's question from Parajunkee:

What is your monthly book budget?

A budget? What's that? I really don't spend any money on myself besides sustaining my reading habit, so I do buy a lot of books. It's my one real passion. I try not to really think about how much I spend because I just might have a heart attack, not to mention my hubby's reaction. ;)

  1. Hi, KT! Just dropping by from the hop. Old follower here. :)

I think I prefer series books too. I like the way you view them - building relationship w/ the characters. I also love the continuity and the unraveling of plot with them. :) Haha! I tried to compute for my book budget once and I almost got a heartattack. Swear, the total is like undeniable proof of my love for reading. lol.

    Have a nice weekend!

  2. Good Morning KT!

    Happy Friday.

Old follower here. I'm doing all three of the Friday blog runs. I don't limit myself to budget with books. I just love to read and write so that line is always doable for me. And Yes, I love start a series at the 1st book.

  4. I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
    doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

    Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

  7. Hi,

I'm stopping by from the Hop

    and I'm a new Follower!

I think that you get a better understanding of the whole picture when you read a series from the beginning as opposed to reading it out of order. I'm a big believer of reading material as it was intended which in this case would be in order.

Have a wonderful weekend & Happy Reading!
