Avenger's Heat by Katie Reus
Moon Shifter #4

To truly have her, he must free her from her dark secret…

Enforcer Erin Flynn has dedicated her life to protecting her kind. But keeping her heart safe from Noah Campbell, the smoking-hot shifter who saved her life last year, is more difficult. The deadly beauty would love to sink into his arms and become his mate, but she knows she can’t—he must never know about her dark past.

When Erin is sent to investigate the disappearances of pregnant shifters in New Orleans, Erin and Noah find themselves involved in a mystery more sinister than anyone expected. And as Erin delves further into the crimes, chilling information about her own past is revealed. The people who wanted her dead in the first place are trying to finish the job, and Noah wants nothing more than to shield her from harm. But can Erin truly trust Noah and let him see the wounded beast she’s hidden for so long?

To say that I have been excited for Noah and Erin's book would be a rather large understatement. I've been dying to see this couple get their happy ever after. I just loved the tension between them in the previous installments, and I just knew things would be explosive between them once things finally boiled over. And explosive they were. The two of them were so combustible, it's a wonder the pages didn't burn up! There's just something to be said about all that build up and anticipation to make the story all the sweeter and well, hotter. Now don't get me wrong things aren't all steam in this book, and the road between them is anything but easy, in fact quite the opposite is true as the tension stayed pretty strong and heavy throughout the entire book. Nothing sucks me into a book more than sexual tension between characters, and these two had it in spades. Nothing came easy and it was an uphill battle of wills on both sides making for an absolutely delicious read.

This book would have been stellar for the romance alone, but when you add in the intense plot, it just took things right over the edge. The case Erin and Noah have been sent to solve is a doozy and one that hits way too close to home making it all the more personal. Nothing is quite as it seems, and the twists and turns kept me guessing the entire time. I just loved how Erin's mysterious past as well as some of Noah's got interwoven into the story, only enriching things even further. There were several times where my emotions got the better of me as I was so swept up into the story. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, this book has it in spades.

Avenger's Heat and the rest of the series are simply must read books for any paranormal romance fan. These books will sweep you right off your feet as you fall in love with the amazing cast of characters as they navigate both love and danger making for very entertaining reads. Simply put, this book is not to be missed!

Exclusive Excerpt: Wild Card by Jamie Wyman

, by Kt Clapsadl

Today we're happy to be hosting an exclusive excerpt of Wild Card by Jamie Wyman. You'll want to get your hands on this fun urban fantasy that's a refreshing change of pace featuring trickster gods.
Marius swept the Mercedes down a soft slope leading into the parking garage below the hotel. He flashed a pass to a weary security guard and pulled into a side lot reserved for executives.

As we made our way to the elevator, our steps echoed in the low-ceilinged garage. Marius still wore his suit slacks and black shirt. He’d taken off his tie and opened the first couple of buttons. With his sleeves rolled up and his typical indifferent gait, he looked like it was perfectly normal to be going to the office at zero dark thirty.

On the elevator, he sagged against the back railing. Pinching the bridge of his nose, his face puckered for a second, then split into a leonine yawn. “I’ll be glad when this is over. I could use a few hours of sleep and a massage from Swedish triplets.”

“Past your bedtime, Marius?”

“Lousy date. You’ve kept me up and running about all night, and what do I get for my troubles? Attacked by some deity’s minions and throttled by a geek with a god complex. You could at least have had the courtesy to invite me to watch you slink out of your dress.” He closed his eyes and tilted his head back against the wall. “I bet you won’t so much as offer me breakfast.”

In the years we’d worked together, I had rarely spent this much time with him at one sitting. Now, in light of all we’d been through, I was seeing more than a snarky goat. I saw something human about him. God help me, I’d started to like the bastard. In spite of myself, I smiled. I may have even giggled.

“What’s so funny?” he asked.

I shook my head. “It’s nothing.”

“Nothing, she says. I’m beginning to think that a date is precisely what you need.”

“Oh, really? That’s the magic that will fix all my woes?”

Marius eyed me up and down. “It’s a place to start. You need a sleepless night…and not one where you’re running from gods and monsters. You, Catherine Sharp,” he said, taking the few steps toward me, “need a real date.”

I laughed uncomfortably and tried to slide past him, to put some space between our bodies. He edged forward. With an arm on each side of my body, he wedged me against the wall.

“You need someone to seduce you within an inch of your small and sorry life. A night with good wine and the promise of soft kisses. Perhaps,” he said, his breath tracing warm lines over my cheeks, “a dance beneath the moonlight.”

His fingertips glided over my arm. My head swam with his closeness. The heat of his body so near to mine called to my blood, and my skin flushed. The scent of him—a clean, spicy cologne and natural musk—set my senses swirling. My breaths came in shaky, shallow draughts.

His eyes held mine captive. “Spend the hours until dawn touching and in a tangle of pleasure and silk sheets,” he purred.

Marius gently lifted my chin, and my stomach knotted with anticipation. Nerves standing at attention, heart pounding, I waited, breathless.

His voice was little more than a whisper. “Yes, I think that is exactly what you need.”

Marius tilted his head. As if it were the most natural conclusion, I closed my eyes, ready to welcome his mouth over mine.

Kirsten Reviews: Possession by Kat Richardson

Possession by Kat Richardson
Greywalker #8

When a comatose woman suddenly wakes up and starts painting scenes she’s never witnessed, with a skill she’s never had, medical science has no explanation. As more bizarre phenomena manifest, even her doctors start to wonder if the woman may be possessed. Frustrated and frightened, the patient’s sister reluctantly turns to Greywalker Harper Blaine to discover who—or what—is occupying her sister’s body.

As Harper digs into the case of apparent possession, she discovers other patients struck with the same mystifying afflictions and a disturbing connection to one of the most gruesome stories in Washington’s history...

Possession by Kat Richardson is the next installment in the Greywalker series about Harper Blaine, a private investigator who has an edge on other P.Is - she can literally walk the line between the living and the dead. Of course, this means she gets all sorts of interesting cases, some more problematic than others.

This time, a comatose woman abruptly wakes up, but her family’s celebration is short lived as she first begins painting things she’s never seen, and other ‘symptoms’ begin to appear. This leads her sister to contact Harper Blaine in order to find out whether her sister is possesed, and if so, what can be done to free her.

Harper’s investigation leads her to find other patients who have similar symptoms and what she learns from them, in turn leads her to an unpleasant story from Washington’s past,

In addition to the case, Harper has her own difficulties. Quinton, her lover, is trying to fight back against his father, who richly deserves to be taken down a peg or twenty, but at the same time, Quinton seeks to keep Harper’s abilities secret from the man. Unfortunately, Quinton’s struggles lead his father to pay more attention to Harper than ever before, and it’s only a matter of time before he learns exactly how well-entrenched she is in the paranormal.

Richardson makes great use of Seattle, both the local history and its landmarks, giving the book a richness that only comes when a writer is familiar with a setting and deeply fond of it. This makes Pike Place Market more than a location, but both a plot element and a vitally important part of the story.

Some of the twists and turns of the plot do rely on readers knowing the working of this world and its supernatural rules, so new readers would do better to start at the beginning of the series. That aside, this book further expands Harper Blaine’s story and offers up plenty for further books in the series.

City of the Divine Sun Blog Tour

, by Kt Clapsadl

"Now's our chance. We have to go before someone figure's out we're missing!"

A rush of adrenaline flooded her system as Serena followed the rest of the group to the side of the helicopter, ducking and sticking to the shadows as much as possible. The landing pad was strangely quiet in the absence of the recent commotion; every sound they made seemed to echo cruelly across the opening.

They reached the side of the helicopter without incident, and Ryder creaked open the driver's door and motioned for everyone else to pile in. Serena ducked in the passenger seat while Hunac and Madeline slid into the back seat. Tossing their bags in the small open cargo space in the back, everyone looked at Ryder expectantly.

Serena noticed he seemed nervous for the first time since she'd met him. Sweat rolled down his face as he tried to make sense of all the dials and switches on the dashboard. It seemed as though there were at least a hundred different things to look at.

I hope he knows what he's doing… None of this makes any sense to me.

"Put on your headsets, folks. It's about to get really loud in here."

Serena put on her headset and looked behind her. If Hunac was nervous, it was not evident on his face. Her mother, however, seemed to fear for her life. Serena reached back and laid a hand on her knee, awkwardly, and gave her a reassuring smile.

"Here goes nothing…" Ryder muttered to himself.

He moved so quickly, Serena couldn't keep up. She knew that time was of the essence. Once the rotors began to spin, everyone would know exactly where they were.

The engine cranked up, and she heard a mechanical whine as the rotors started to turn. To her left, she could see the two men fly out of the building, dazed.

The tall man frantically pulled out his radio, speaking rapidly to someone on the other side. Serena had no idea what he was saying, but a moment later, the man seemed to realize exactly what was happening.

He turned to yell at the man next to him, and they both ran back into the building.

Please hurry! We have to get out of here!!

Then the ground shifted nauseatingly before her, and she realized they were slowly rising into the air. The helicopter rolled forward, tipping dangerously down. The blades spun mercilessly close to the building where the men had gone. They flew out now, running madly away from the landing pad.

"Ryder!! Pull up!"

"I'm trying, darling. It seems I'm a little more rusty than I thought."

The aircraft pulled back then, leveling out before rising again. Serena saw a jeep coming into the clearing now, men jumping out and pulling out their weapons.

They were high enough to be above the trees, but nowhere near out of the range of the assault rifles. If they did fire, however, the chopper would most likely crash into the trees. The Barón came out of the jeep last, looking up and making this realization himself. He raised his arm, signaling his men to lower their guns.

They were too high for her to be sure, but it seemed almost like the Barón had seen her and smiled. It wasn't a good smile, either.

Release Day Review: Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

, by Kt Clapsadl

Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress #7

There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

After finishing Up From the Grave, my first thought was absolute contentment. The second thought was how in the world am I going to review this book? It was just absolutely everything I could have possibly hoped for in the series ender. While I am more than a little sad to be saying goodbye to my all time favorite character couple, I'm very happy with how things ended up. I have to admit that since this series had these two awesome characters together throughout the entire series, I wasn't really sure what kind of "Happy Ending" there would be that would feel any more finished than we've already seen. Plus of course, Cat and Bones could never lead a simple life, so again, I just didn't know where that finished feeling would come from. While I won't spoil things, I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with how things turned out. I never could have predicted the outcome, but that made it all the more enjoyable.

The twists and turns in this book were so incredible there were times I felt like I was getting whiplash from being yanked back and forth. There was one action by a character that just floored me. I mean I understand why this person did what they did, but oh my goodness, you cannot imagine my shock and heart-wrenching incredulity at what was happening. Of course now that I'm a bit separated from that event, I realize that despite the shocking nature of it, it was very true to the characters, and honestly that is one of the most impressive things about this series. There has been absolute consistency in how the characters react to things, be they good or bad. Sure there's been plenty of character growth, I mean just look at Cat now vs the start of the series. But when it comes down to it at their core they're still the same people with the same flaws and strengths, and I just really appreciated how true Jeaniene stayed to them. She really held no punches throughout this entire series, but I have to say that UP FROM THE GRAVE might just take the knockout.

I really hope that I have done this absolutely fabulous book and series the justice it deserves in this book. I honestly think this may be the hardest one I've had to say goodbye to, and that's saying something as I've finished a lot of pretty darn good series. Every Cat and Bones lover MUST read this book. There's just no getting around it. From emotions, to danger, to love, to betrayal, loyalty and heartache, this book is an insane roller coaster from start to finish. You'll want to carve out a solid block of time to read this one as once you start, you will not be able to put it down. Run, do not walk to your nearest bookstore and snatch this puppy up. Trust me you'll be glad that you did.

Wild Things Blog Tour

, by Kt Clapsadl

I'm so happy to be once again hosting a spot on one of Chloe Neill's blog tours! I absolutely love everything she writes. I mean her characters are so awesome, and very real that each book sucks me in so far that I can't escape. I wouldn't want to anyway. Granted, she does have a tendency to put my heart in a blender on the puree setting, but the end result is definitely worth it. Seriously, if you haven't read any of her books, you just don't know what you are missing.

Here's an excerpt from my review:
"It never ceases to amaze me how these books can have so much jammed into them, but never once feel overwhelming. This time around there were several plots going on at once, not to mention a few overall arcing series plots, plus a whole lot of emotion and character to development to boot. All I can say is bravo to you Chloe!" Read More...

Rogue Alliance Tour

, by Kt Clapsadl

“Where did you say you were from?” Shyla asked.
“I didn’t,” Brennan quipped.
Her head was tipped up and she squinted into the morning sun as she walked alongside him, keeping up with his brisk pace.
“Yeah, that’s right. You avoid the question every time. I wonder why that is?”
He stopped and faced her. “I wonder why you have so many damn questions.”
Shyla suddenly moved toward him, uncomfortably close. Brennan could breathe her in. He became intoxicated with the scent of female, and sweat. Two opposing urges fought within him—the urge to take a step back, and the urge to step in and close the distance. He resisted both and stood firm.
He looked into her face. Her chin tilted up as she searched his eyes. It took him off guard, when she reached up and touched his cheek.
“You haven’t shaved. It’s nice. I like it.”
He could feel the softness of her palm, even through his stubble. She was toying with him. Why, he wasn’t sure. But she was doing a damn fine job of it. Gently he put his hand over hers. They stood and locked gazes. Then, he wrapped his grip around her wrist and gave it a firm squeeze.
“I’m not someone to play your little games with, Shyla.” The warning was strong in his tone.
Her expression was wide-eyed and innocent as she took a step back.
“Well it’s a good thing I’m not playing games then, isn’t it?

Reviews for the past week:

Crimson Veil by Yasmine Galenorn (Early Review)
"Crimson Veil was a very enjoyable installment in the Otherworld series. Fans of the series will be more than pleased, and I can't wait to dive into Camille's installment next."

Wild Things by Chloe Neill (Early Review)
"It never ceases to amaze me how these books can have so much jammed into them, but never once feel overwhelming. This time around there were several plots going on at once, not to mention a few overall arcing series plots, plus a whole lot of emotion and character to development to boot. All I can say is bravo to you Chloe!"

Kirsten's Book of the Week:

The City by Stella Gemmell (Review)
"Gemmell's writing style is different than that of her late husband, which is both to be expected, and a good thing. In making the story her own, she takes it in different directions, and while readers looking for something identical to that of David Gemmell won't be satisfied, they should enjoy the voice of a writer who has made a strong debut and hopefully has a great deal more to say in the genre. "
