Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh
Guild Hunter #6

Nalini Singh, the New York Times bestselling “alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) returns to an immortal world of violent passion and lethal power…on the brink of a deadly archangelic war.

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.

Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.

Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…

When the most powerful beings in the world start to fall from the sky, things are terribly wrong. What started out as a typical day in Manhattan, quickly turned deadly as thousands of Angels plummeted down. Guild Hunter Elena and her lover, the Archangel of New York, Raphael, know that they have to get to the bottom of this as fast as possible. They cannot afford to appear weak, but with their lines decimated and a dark force looming, war is an inevitability.

With each new book I read in this series, I only fall more in love with the world and the characters. I cannot express how excited I was when I saw that ARCHANGEL'S LEGION would return to Elena and Raphael. As much as I enjoyed reading the other characters' books, these two were my first love in the series. There is just something so raw and primal about the two of them together that I absolutely love. It's amazing to see how much they still clash despite needing each other so much. At this point, I do not think either could survive without the other one, as they seem to be completely interwoven together. But as I said, that doesn't keep them from clashing, especially as Raphael's predilection of making decisions without Elena, or overruling her even when she asks him not to. Of course Elena has her own trust issues plus an incredible amount of stubbornness as well, so she also has to constantly work on choosing her battles. All of this just makes things so electric between them. In fact there was more than one angry sex scene, and boy were they HOT, so passionate and raw, it just took my breath away. My all time favorite trope is enemies to lovers, as I love the build up and tension in these stories, so I'm one happy camper that despite them being together, their relationship hasn't lost one bit of that fire and spark that I love. I'm not sure who will be featured next in this series, but as always I'll be eagerly awaiting Raphael and Elena's return.

Some how, amazingly each new installment in this series, only brings high stakes. Honestly I'm in sheer awe at Nalini Singh's ability to outdo herself each and every time. You would just that at some point by now that things would have started to slow down or at least become old hat when it comes to the threats. Desensitized may be the best word to describe what I mean. But that couldn't be further from what has happened in this series. Each new threat to the characters that I have grown to love feels every bit as strong as the first one did. In fact, they may just be worse because each new book only gets me further invested into these characters. I have to admit that the early part of the book when the angels started falling from the sky was incredibly intense. And as for the rest of the book, suffice it to say that I have very little fingers left from the nerves. It was that intense, but oh so good as well, especially when you add in all the new twists and turns.

With a hot romance full of incredible tension, a stellar cast of characters that you can really get behind, intense action and a kick ass plot, I couldn't possibly rate ARCHANGEL'S LEGION any higher. This is series is on my keeper shelf, and definitely and auto buy. Trust me, run do not walk to your nearest bookstore to snatch this puppy up as it will give you a guaranteed solid block of entertainment that you won't want to miss.
